And the Windows 7 Beat goes on...

Here's a few things happening with Windows 7: It is more and more compatible with printers, and most software. I even installed a 10 year old game on one computer and a DOS program on another, and both worked! Magentic, a free wallpaper and screensaver program from Incredimail, is a killer for Windows 7. Turns the ...screen white and you can't do anything with it. Magentic works great with Windows XP, though.

The biggest obstacle for my clients is the lack of an email program like Windows Mail or Outlook Express. If you can bring yourself to work with a webmail program like gmail or some other choice, you'll save yourself some trauma when your turn comes to upgrade to the Windows 7 operating system.

Internet Explorer 8 still has a few problems, especially for yahoo mail users. Download Firefox for an alternative browser, but still use Internet Explorer for most websites. Firefox just mutilates my websites, and they show up great with Internet Explorer, so I'm still cheering for Microsoft to fix their problems. Windows 7 is the bomb, it's more intuitive like the Mac Snow Leopard operating software, and so much more memory efficient; Windows 7 is far easier for Windows XP users to convert to, but be patient, and it will feel like home soon.

Window 7 is getting better, or I am...

Quick note to all: Windows 7 is getting better and better! This just might revive the sluggish Microsoft Industry, like they are in such a financial bind... Just wanted to let you know that the more I work with, upgrade to, and experience Windows 7, the better I like it. It still has NO EMAIL PROGRAM, and this is crappy. Incredimail is not compatible, and they are forcing you to buy something like Outlook, but webmail is the way to go. No problems with email then. I guess it's all going that direction, webmail. Then you don't lose your email, addresses, and etc. if you computer crashes. Upload your pictures to Shutterfly, and you have two vital areas saved away from your hard drive if your pc crashes. Windows 7 and Merry Christmas

Well, hope you all had a wonderful, magical Christmas! Ready for a great New Year! Windows 7 seems to be getting a little better, or I am. Printers seem to be working better, so I'm saying some windows updates are helping compatibility. Compatibility between Windows 7 and Windows XP seems to be better than Windows Vista. I have gone through the wireless networking issue with XP and Vista, and Windows 7 seem to accept XP better. That's good for me and for my clients. Microsoft also promised faster startups and better memory (RAM) utilization, and I think there is greater efficiency. That being said, there are still many things to work through for a less buggy experience. Don't be afraid to buy a new computer with Windows 7, but if you can wait a while longer, do that, and you'll happier. I'll keep reporting to you on the progress of Windows 7 with my experiences, and hopefully this will be helpful.

I'm still working with my Mac computer and will be adding training and eventually repair for Mac computers to my business. There are a lot of similarities these days with the Windows computer and the Apple Mac computers. Macs are pretty cool, and I'm really looking forward to mastering their great software programs of iWork and iLife. These are suites of programs to create photo projects, DVDs, Movies, Word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations similar to Powerpoint. If you are a home user, Mac could be just as great for you as a Windows computer, and they are coming down in price. Something to think about. Another big advantage at this time is that they do not have the virus/spyware problems that Windows has, so I'll keep you advised as to my findings on this.

Windows 7, and the jury is definitely still out...

Hope everyone is taking the day off today, and feeling peaceful!  I've been a busy beaver setting up yet one more website responsibility.  Just can't get enough.

Well, so far I've encountered a few HP computers with Windows 7, and here are the results of the meetings...or the collisions.  One such encounter was with the Hp Touchsmart All-in-One 600t series.  This computer is kind of cool, but the touch screen is kind of wasted.  It's fun to punch at your screen for a while, sensitivity issues are a problem because all you really have to do is hover over the icon sometimes, and it opens, even if you didn't want it to.  This computer would freeze up several times in an hour, and was vitually unusable until I uninstalled an antivirus program called Webroot Antivirus/Antispy.  The client had the program preinstalled at Best Buy, but the program was not as compatible as the package claimed.  At least, not compatible with this computer with Windows 7 Home Premium.  Uninstalling the program magically resurrected the computer to run smoothly, and connect to the internet via Internet Explorer 8. 

I highly recommend Avast Antivirus/Antispyware Software, available for download at http://www.avast.com/  and you can download it free.  They have a great pay version at a very reasonable $59(on sale now) for a 3 year subscription, but as long as you are willing to manually scan your computer, this free version is just fine.  

One more thing, another HP with Windows 7, Norton Antivirus/Antispy installed, could not get to the internet at all with Internet Exporer 8.  It was not a Touchscreen, but I suspect Norton may have had some play in this problem just as the Webroot software had.  I was not at liberty to change this antivirus software, so I had FireFox on a CD, and I installed that for the client, which solved their internet problems.  So there's a couple of scenarios for you.  

However you handle the new Windows 7 computers, remember that you need a spare browser, like I mentioned in the previous tips, so download FireFox  or Chrome  and use Avast Antivirus/Antispyware software.
